WWE RAW REVIEW - August 12, 2019

We're still in Toronto, following the previous night's WWE SummerSlam. Let's get right into the fallout!

They are going all-in on the WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins being the premiere babyface. He's giving full Cena-like speeches now.
I'm not sure if AJ Styles is the guy to counteract that, even if he is currently a heel.
I would think they'd want a bigger, more traditional heel, but perhaps they don't.
Maybe they're gong a different way after Seth Rollins' WWE SummerSlam match with Brock Lesnar. I suppose we'll get a great match, I'm just not sure we're going to get a well-told story.

I liked this, which may sound contradictory, seeing as how I just went over the whole heel vs face thing about Seth Rollins.
I think Samoa Joe is different, though. His character largely remains the exact same whether he is face or heel.
Also, I like that, while the babyfaces help each other, the heels do not like each other. So when Sami Zayn was running his mouth, Sami Zayn got dealt with.
I'm not sure if exactly where they take this Samoa Joe angle, but I like when he's an angry loose cannon.

It seems like we're giving Dolph Ziggler a "can't do anything right" gimmick. He's getting destroyed by Goldberg and The Miz is making him look like a fool.
For whatever reason, I'm still intrigued by this story, but I think they are running out of time to really start telling it, before I lose my interest.

The best line of the night is when Elias told Ricochet that no one who dresses up like a comic book character wa going to tell him what's "cool".
I know WWE is all aboard the Ricochet train right now, but I still think Elias could be a much bigger deal.

I still have zero interest in Andrade. I still have zero interest in this forced "rivalry" between he and Rey Mysterio.
However, after the match, they highlighted how Rey Mysterio is losing a lot of matches lately. Mysterio interviewed in the back about it even.
Do you think there is even a remote possibility that WWE takes a left turn, and turns Rey Mysterio heel?

I know Stonecold Steve Austin has a new show to promote, and that WWE was going to find a way to get him on, for that reason alone.
I'm not even that turned-off by how this went. Most real sports use accomplished veterans for analysis, so that makes enough sense for him to be there.
However, they already laid the Superstar Seth Rollins thing on pretty thick to start the show, it's a bit much now.

These guys are still being a lot of fun. They have managed to do this role in a way that feels different than anyone has.
The Street Profits are pulling off the comedy role, without it feeling like it's a clown show. The benefit of them "narrating" the show gives RAW a nice touch.
This is a nice way to have NXT stars highlighted on the main roster without them just essentially becoming main roster stars.

I feel like both of these guys are in a similar position. They both look like they should be a bigger deal, but it's just not connecting.
Out of the two, I feel like Drew McIntyre has a better chance of sticking around for a while.
Cedric Alexander has even less going for his character. What does he do? Why does he do it? WWE really hasn't told us much about him.

This feels like a match from WWE Main Event, not RAW. This makes me feel like they're getting us ready to "reintroduce" us to Glorious Robert Roode.
Is there anything left to do when this character? Didn't we miss the boat already on this guy?

I believe this was an easy, effective way to explain Brock Lesnar being gone for another one of his extended breaks.
Brock is infrequently there, so it's hard to make long plans, and this is a way for him to disappear for a while without too many questions.
Am I wrong? Will he just show up next week and beat the crap out of someone?

Hear me out; I think they should find a way to make the 24/7 Title slightly less gimmicky. I think they can get into some of these minor stories deeper.
Elias vs R Truth could be a very entertaining storyline to tell over the course of a few weeks. Hopefully we see some of that next week.

Okay! Shit is getting serious. However, I think Sasha chould have done without the wig thing. Nothing screams badass about removing a wig to reveal your new hair color.
The rest of this was good. Sasha instantly looked ruthless, which is what some of these wrestlers are supposed to be. They are fighting for their own success and rewards; competitors are nothing but an obstacle to destroy.
I'm excited to see how this plays out.

Are we not done with this? How many more jobbers do we have to watch The Viking Raiders destroy?
This is getting ridiculously boring.

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross are great. The Kabuki Warriors look like a decent tag team as well, but their manger being Paige has not really been explained well.
There's a lot to still figure out with the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships.

This has me excited. The WWE King of the Ring is an excellent way to get someone bragging rights for an entire year, and possibly beyond.
My biggest fear, each time they "bring back" The WWE King of the Ring tournament, is that they have someone in mind for the cartoonish King gimmick.
That said, King Booker did a lot of good for Booker T's career, so I might not hate it, even if that's what we get.

Man, they are REALLY trying to make Seth Rollins the most loved guy in all of WWE. When did Braun Strowman begin caring about the safety and well-being of others on the roster?
This all seems really over-the-top. I'm beginning to wonder if they are leading us down a path, to give us some kind of swerve.
Will Braun Strowman keep helping Seth Rollins putt of trouble? Will Strowman eventually turn on Rollins? I'm not sure if I'm intrigued because they are being purposely vague, or if I'm just reading too much into things.

I guess that's it. I don't think we moved forward a whole lot, but it definitely felt like WWE has hit some reset buttons, and are introducing new angles after their second-biggest event of the year; WWE SummerSlam.
