Tom's Top 5 - Pro Wrestling's Premier Ranking System - August 3, 2019

Overall this week in the whacky world of pro wrestling was really good.
Was there room for improvement? Of course, but let’s not lose sight that this is a show with no off season there are bound to be some stinkers from time to time.
To steal a Spanish Announce Table phrase I am going into next week’s shows “Positive & Patient.”
Now let’s get to the the top five pro wrestlers of the week…

BROCK LESNAR

Call me a “mark” for destruction but I love a good ol’ fashion beatdown and that’s what we got when Brock Lesnar made a surprise appearance on Raw to completely decimate Set Rollins.
You got F5’s in all different fashions! You had an F5 outside the ring, on a chair, and just for fun (apparently) and F5 on a medical gurney.
I am not sure this was the best move to get sympathy for Rollins because I left the segment thinking how badass Lesnar was in the role of the hunter.

DOLPH ZIGGLER

Low-key; Ziggler had a great week of matches. His match with Rollins at Raw was really good, as expected since these two obviously have a great chemistry together.
On Smackdown Ziggler picked up a win against Finn Balor, which adds more creditably to Ziggler as we head into SummerSlam.
Also, Ziggler has been really good on the mic with his promos, and I personally love the little jabs he has been throwing at Goldberg.

PETE DUNNE

The “Bruiserweight” dominated NXT UK for so long that I honestly thought he would stay there the entirety of his WWE career.
Now it looks like he is transitioning over to the main NXT brand, as he took out Roderick Strong in the main event of NXT this week.
I am a huge fan of Dunne, as he reminds me a lot of Taz from ECW. The undersized WWE star never let’s his height get in the way of winning a match and, other than the optics, he handles his own really well against the bigger opponent.

TORU YANO

Yano is a bit of an oddball and I am here for all of it! Admittedly I do not watch a ton of New Japan Pro Wrestling, but I was anxious to see how Yano and Moxley would match up.
The match itself was not an all-time classic at the G1 Climax (Block A) Day 12, but the finish was clever and Yano deserves some more recognition.
I don’t think Yano will win the G1, but he will forever have a win over Moxley via count out after Yano taped Moxley’s leg together with Shooter; haha!

RICOCHET

I feel like Ricochet is the 2019 version of Rey Mysterio. He has the flashy moves, the cool entrance, and he is a babyface the entire family can feel good about cheering.
He picked up a win this week in a gauntlet match; eaarning himself a rematch with AJ Styles. The last set of matches he had with Styles were all really good.
With an opportunity at SummerSlam, I would not be shocked if we saw Ricochet be the standout star at “the biggest party of the summer.”
